SPACES AVAILABLE TO BOOK YOUR LESSONS NOW!
Please reach us at info@drive2day.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
You can start learning to drive a car on public roads from the age of 17 if you hold a provisional driving licence. You can apply for your provisional licence when you are 15 years and 9 months old. Without one, you cannot start your driving lessons.
Your provisional licence should arrive within 3 weeks of the date of application. Since Covid, there has been a backlog so please allow some more time. Contact the DVLA if it has not arrived by 4/5 weeks.
Yes, you can take practical lessons whilst preparing for your theory test. However, due to the backlog and waiting time for a practical test, we highly recommend passing your theory test first.
There is no minimum or maximum amount of hours of tuition that you must complete before you take a driving test. However, everyone is different - some require more, some less. According to DVSA statistics, the national average amount of lessons to be test ready is around 47 hours.
You are able to book another driving test straight away, however you will need to choose a date that is at least 10 working days after you fail. It is best to use this time for extra lessons and to go over any test feedback with your instructor.
When your are going for your test, make sure you have your UK provisional driving licence, theory test pass certificate and a car. Most people use their driving instructor’s car, or their own if it fits certain requirements.
How often you have your lessons is entirely up to you. We recommend at least 2 hours per week. It is worth noting down that the more lessons you take the quicker you will learn.
